Trading-up and Internationalization
Möbelzentrum Westfalen in Barntrup has proved itself as launchpad for new business relations

The assortment at the Möbelzentrum Westfalen (Germany) is getting more and more international: Exhibitors from six nations presented themselves this autumn at the exhibition center in Barntrup/Lippe. Roughly 700 top-class trade visitors appraised the latest offers by Asiades, Beso Meble, Bizzarto, Bruno Steinhoff GmbH, Forte Fabryki Mebli, Gaoling, Iste, Kamýk Daunen, Fabryka Mebli Tapicerowanych Tombea, Preform Furniture, Trade Point and Vivi Möbelvertrieb showcasing innovative furniture and accessories product lines for the volume markets at halls 9 and 10.

At this year’s September Order Fair from 14-18 September (coinciding with the M.O.W.), the Möbelzentrum Westfalen saw a significant growth in customer approval on the part of purchasing commissions coming from German furniture purchasing organizations and chain managers. The “trading-up“ is showing noticeable positive effects: Had the Exhibition center Barntrup been known for the “knock-down“ and “young living“ furniture segments so far, it now also draws a rising number of purchasers from the “conventional living” and “assembled” segments.

From the very beginning, Forte Fabryki Mebli had braved the turbulences regarding the former „Messepark“ location. Now the company presents its manifold carcass furniture range at a stand of more than 1,600 m² of exhibition space. Since September, also the Bruno Steinhoff GmbH covers a large-scale stand of 1,000 m², which attracted a great deal of attention with its array of dining room furniture, sideboards, couch tables, upholstered furniture, office- and phono furniture.

The change at the Möbelzentrum Westfalen became apparent also by the successful premieres of the two Polish upholstery manufacturers Bizzarto Collezione (Swarzędz) and Iste sp. z o.o. (Babimost), who are both focusing on trend design in the medium price range and good quality. Thanks to systematic ground work these two first-time exhibitors enjoyed a large number of well-targeted visits and were able to initiate important contacts during the fair.

Möbelzentrum director Peter H. Meyer gives a positive summary of the September Order Fair: “Visitors and exhibitors alike find a perfect atmosphere on the concentrated space here in Barntrup. Even if we may use halls 7 and 8 next to the halls 9 and 10 in the future, there will be a focused presentation for all participants. Every single visitor will have a look at every single exhibitor – no one will just ‘stand in the corner’ here. And our location gains further market mindshare thanks to one international retailer with high purchasing potential who has taken long-term tenancy at Barntrup in order to present new concepts in-house.”

In this context Meyer, who is the founder of the ZOW furniture components fairs, since those days likes to use the metaphor of the “elephant trail“, where no grass should ever grow. “This year at the latest we have effectively achieved our goal: Especially among the ‘big names’ there was no one missing this time.”

There will be more occasions to visit Barntrup in 2015 during the Partners’ Days from 2 – 6 February, the Order Spring from 18 – 21 May and the September Order Fair from 20 – 24 September.
